This is the combination plus a few other vital components that are responsible for whether you have a high handicap or a scratch handicap.
We will talk firstly about the other vital components such as, holding the golf club.
If you have developed a grip taught to you by a professional golf coach, and you still feel uncomfortable with it, then change it. Change it immediately, because if you do not you will never strike the ball cleanly and accurately. You will struggle with every shot you take.
To continue with a grip that is uncomfortable is like running a marathon with running shoes too small for you. You will never make it to the end.
The correct golf grip for you is one that does not squeeze your fingers too tightly. You do not have to contort your fingers to all shapes and angles just to hit a golf ball.
The golf club should rest comfortably between the palm of your hand and your fingers. It should be held firm but also flexible. If someone wanted to take the club out of your hand, they should be able to do so without using force. It should slip out quite easily.
Golf club face impacting on the golf ball should be a continuous movement of, knees, hips, arms and shoulders. They should all move in unison with each other. Each one has a vital part to play if you are to strike the ball cleanly and accurately.
The drills you do before you drive off the tee box, plus your set up should be enough to have you warmed up sufficiently that your muscles are supple and your legs are strong when you assume your stance.
There are so many factors involved in playing golf that it is impossible to cover them all, but the most important factor for all amateur golfers is enjoyment.
You must be comfortable with all the actions and movements you make, if you are not then you will not enjoy your golf and have no chance of reducing your handicap. I am sure this is not why you took up playing golf. I am sure you have the attitude to do whatever it takes to help you improve.
The golf club is a most vital part of playing golf, but you must know how to use it properly, and the only way is to make sure all the grips and stances are comfortable for you.
The rest is focus, you must focus on every shot, if you lose focus then you will not impact on the ball properly with your club.
So please remember to get comfortable with your grip, and focus with a determined attitude and you will not go too far wrong.
Wishing you good fortune in your golfing.
Your friend in golf.
Noel.
